STUDIO 'Trace of a moment' copper and brass brooch
A one-of-a-kind sculptural brooch formed from clusters of hand-shaped, oxidised copper poppy crowns.
Each crown is individually formed and slightly misshapen, capturing the seedhead at a moment between beauty and decay. Deep black oxidisation traces the surface, while flashes of warm copper emerge beneath it, revealing the material underneath and echoing the gradual transformation of a natural object over time.
The densely packed crowns create a tactile, almost fossil-like fragment of nature. A handcrafted brass pin provides a contrasting warmth against the darkened copper and adds to the brooch's sculptural character.
Part of Fossilised Fragility, a series exploring impermanence, memory and transformation through the forms and textures of poppy seedheads. A tactile piece to wear close to the body — a small remnant of nature suspended between endurance and decay.
Materials: Oxidised copper with handcrafted brass pin
Pin: 1.5mm thick brass wire. Please note that this is a robust, handmade pin, deliberately made thicker than a conventional brooch pin for strength and security. As a result, it will leave a more noticeable hole in fabric and is not recommended for delicate or fine fabrics.
